Why should Arianna Ross, Story Tapestries, be a part of;
My School? My Community Center? My Library? My Hospital? My
Organization?
For every
organization, there are specific reasons that the arts should
be included in the curriculum or structure of the organization.
First, every child and adult approaches learning in a different
manner. According to the theory of multiple intelligences,
the arts create a tool to tap into what they might normally
find frustrating in a traditional setting. Secondly, the arts
open a world of understanding for every individual. It deepens
both their connection and understanding of the past, present
and future. There is no doubt that life without the Arts would
be colorless, sad and lacking emotion.

Can Arianna Ross adapt her programs to fit the specific needs
of my audience?
Yes, Arianna
prefers to know in advance who will be in the audience and
what are their needs. She asks that you be very specific in
filling out her booking sheet. After reading over that
information she will call and discuss in detail your specific
requirements. However, Arianna can make last minute changes
as necessary. In many of her past positions as a teacher
and a performer, she was required quickly and on a daily basis
to adapt and create a wide variety of programs for different
age groups.

What kind of programs do you offer? What type of stories do
you tell?
Arianna
is a multi-disciplined, multi-lingual artist. She is
a trained visual artist, storyteller, creative writer, drama
teacher, theatre director, actor, photographer, dancer and
musician. She has a degree in theatre from
Northwestern
University . In addition,
she spent three years working as a dancer, actor, teacher,
musician and performer in
India with the world renowned
Bansi Kaul’s troupe “Rang Vidushak”.
Presently Arianna is training to “play” Capoeira
[an African-Brazilian Martial Art] in both
Brazil and
Washington DC
. She
uses the power of acrobatics, dance, photography and spoken
word to create programs that are a mix of personal experiences,
international folk tales and historically true stories.
She does extensive research about every subject she teaches
and tells. She never performs or teaches in an area
unless she has intimate knowledge of the subject matter of
the program

How long should the event be?
It is
important to think about the age of the audience, the time
of day and the schedule of events. Be fair to your listeners,
but challenge them to try a new experience. Remember every
performance is different whether it is for students with learning
disabilities, young children, teenagers or adults. Arianna
has performed for every age group and level of focus.
Anyone can sit through a 45-minute program that captivates
their imagination. She has discovered that even the most high-energy
individual person loves listening to storytelling and participating
in the arts when it is approached correctly.

Can you design a program to specifically fit our curricular
needs or the theme of our festival?
Arianna
recommends that you view the programs listed on this website
as a template. If you do not see what you want, than
you can ask her to design a special program to fit your needs.
However, please be advised that if you want a program on a
subject that Arianna is not familiar with, she will need enough
time to research and shape the story.

Are your programs connected directly to the National and State
Standards of Learning?
YES YES
YES!!!! Arianna has attended many workshops on arts
integration. Additionally, she teaches a workshop on
incorporating the Standards of Learning into your arts programs
with collaborating artist Diane Macklin. She has not
provided you with a list of standards covered because the
specific ones change from State to State. However,
if you need a list of the standards, Arianna would be happy
to provide that for you.

How much room does Arianna Ross need to perform one of her
Story Tapestries?
Enough
space to do a cartwheel, ten feet by ten feet. If necessary
she can adapt to a smaller space. She has performed
in a hospital room as well as a large festival stage.
The most important part of the space is the aisle. Whenever
possible Arianna loves to do acrobatics down the aisle!

Does Arianna need a stage or can she perform on the floor?
Always
ask the question: Can the audience see Arianna? She
can perform on either the stage or the floor. However,
it is always distressing when the person in the back row cannot
see the wonderful dance movements because of the limits of
the floor. When there is no stage, do not worry, Arianna
will use the aisle to access those back row audience members.

What is the maximum number of people Arianna Ross recommends
attending one school performance? One workshop? One festival
event?
In order
to answer this question one has to know your space.
For a school performance that is located in a gym or cafeteria,
she does not recommend more than 350. However if we
are in an auditorium where every child can see the stage,
there is a little more leeway on size. Arianna will
always try to bring her microphone and sound system. At
a workshop for young children Arianna does not recommend more
than a normal classroom size. However with adults she
can coordinate up to 50 people, but Arianna suggests keeping
the workshop to a limit of 30 for personal attention. At
a festival, as long as there is a great sound system and a
stage the numbers are limitless. Arianna is a commanding
storyteller who makes use of her body and voice. She
can project using her skills as a dancer and storyteller to
rivet the attention of large groups
