Artist
Biography
Jasmine Artis has been a performer for as long as she
can remember, but decided to seriously pursue dance
upon entering the University of Maryland in fall 2003.
There she co-founded Dynamic Dance Team in the spring
of 2004. Jasmine became a member of Culture Shock DC
in February 2006. She graduated in May 2006 with a BS
in Kinesiology Science and since then has made the dance
community a huge part of her life. She is currently
the Artistic Director of Mini Shock DC and is so excited
and humbled to see so many amazing young people grow
and develop as dancers and individuals. She also dances
for Contradiction Dance, a local company that merges
several artistic forms with the intention of expressing
stories. She has performed at several venues nationally
and internationally including The Kennedy Center, Warner
Theater, ATLAS Theater, Clarice Smith Performing Arts
Center, Escondido Center for the Arts and Boisfeuillet
Jones Atlanta Civic Center. She has also performed in
international festivals in Suzhou, China and Idaho.
Jasmine is interested in inspiring people to chase their
dreams…fall, fail, cry, love, and keep pushing through
the struggle because it is only then that we can find
true fulfillment.

Biography
Jasmine Artis has been a performer for as long as she
can remember, however did not begin any type of organized
dance until 2003 when she started college at University
of Maryland. In 2005, she began teaching hip hop at
Wheaton Studio of Dance. From there, she went on to
add Beginner Tap and Combination classes to her teaching
schedule at the studio. In 2006, she auditioned to be
a part of a non-profit youth outreach organization,
Culture Shock DC. She was accepted into the company
as a core dance member and within a year began teaching
a hip hop class for children ages 5-10. This class was
the beginnings of what is now Mini Shock DC, a youth
company of which Jasmine is the Artistic Director. Jasmine
graduated from University of Maryland in 2006 with a
BS in Kinesiology Science. She currently teaches at
various locations throughout the DC Metropolitan Area,
including the following: Contradiction Dance at Echo
Park, The Madeira School, The Jewish Community Center,
Potomac Dance Center, the Davis Center, and Poetry N
Motion. Some of her Mini Shock members were recently
selected to accompany the Broadway Across America's
production of The Wizard of Oz, where they played the
role of munchkins at the Warner Theater.
